A RUSTIC cottage within sight of an ancient Norman church sold for almost six times its guide price at auction.
Charming, Bramble Cottage on Rhystone Lane in Lugwardine, a rural three-bedroom property, in need of renovation and updating, was listed with Paul Fosh Auctions at just £19,000.
Property auctioneer Sean Roper said: “Bidders for Bramble Cottage, which is in a desirable rural location, saw its huge potential from its initial listing. This enthusiasm followed through to the online auction with some 11 bidders casting a total of seventy bids before the lot sold for an impressive £112,000.
“The cottage, although in need of plenty of work, has some stunning views including over the Norman parish church to the rear.
“Inside the cottage there are quite beautiful original rustic beams in the lounge area which has its original fireplace. The property, which was sold with vacant possession, offers a buyer an enviable opportunity to put their own stamp on it.
“As well as the three-bedroom cottage, at the rear there is an additional attached building which could well be used as storage or as a useful additional room. There is also a rear garden.
“Work will need to be carried out inside the property to achieve a good return should you wish to purchase for investment and letting purposes. Rents in comparable properties in the area appear to be favourable.
“The cottage allows the owner to enjoy a perfect mix of town and city life with convenience and countryside charm.
The name of 'Lugwardine' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Lucvordine.
