Ross 12 Widden 25
DESPITE a highly committed and spirited performance on Saturday Ross 1sts unfortunately lost their first league game of the season to a strong Widden Old Boys Team. The first 15 minutes of the game saw Ross dominate both field position and possession with some intelligent kicking from Hugh Bellamy and Chay Brine pushing Widden back. Despite coming close on a couple of occasions Ross couldn't quite get over the white wash. The first real visit to the Ross 22 saw the Widden inside centre manage to cross in the far corner. Widden then dominated the next period of the game and despite some excellent first up tackling managed to cross again from a well worked lineout.
Ross regrouped again at this point and with only a couple of minutes to go till half time moved the ball well through the hands of the backs after go approach work from the forwards to Josh Morgan who beat 3 players on his way to the line. Ross came out revitalised after the break and despite conceding an early penalty started to play the game in the Widden half. Ross then spent time camped in the Widden 22 and then referee had no option but to bin 2 Widden players due to persistent infringing. After some strong carries by Matthew Redman and Tara Barnett the balls was again moved wide for Casey Morgan to show great strength to beat three players and carry two over the line with him. This then made the game 12 - 13 to Widden.
