Madam, I was interested to read details about Douglas Dean in the Ross Gazette - 28th May, 2014. I didn't know Douglas, but I knew Connie Dean. I used to go in the shop way back in the 1940s and 50s. In the war years, Connie's father, Albert, looked after the shop, then after the war, Connie took over the running of the business. Probably not many 'sons of Ross' know that Connie had a daughter, Ann. I remember that she was a bright, intelligent and sparkly little lady with pig tails, because sometimes she would be in the shop with her grandfather. Tragically, Ann died when she was about five or six years old, from meningitis, I think. That would have been about 1946 - after the war. The Electric Shop now occupies where Dean's Toyshop once was.
