Madam, Having attended the public meeting held in Ross library on October 19th, relating to the proposed new arrangements for the combined library and Info centre, I cannot understand why the county and town councils were so reluctant to bring their ideas into the public domain earlier.

The proposals put forward seemed sensible and practical in these strained financial times. One major flaw in their approach, however, was the total lack of consultation with the local registrar and his staff regarding the use of the Old Chapel building as a key part of the overall plans.

Why are we, the parishioners, still in the dark regarding the proposed changes relating to the Heritage Centre and the TIC? It appears that our elected representatives still think we are incapable of making a meaningful contribution to the process of change. Being treated like a bunch of mushrooms tends to make us less connected to the political process, and breeds even more indifference.

So are we going to have a public meeting about the changes to the Heritage Centre? Are we going to be allowed to participate in the redevelopment of our key services?

I look forward with anticipation to the notification of the time, date and location of the consultation meeting – if we ever get an opportunity to participate!
