LAST week's Ross Gazette poll – do you feel that having volunteer wardens in Ross will help combat the problem of dog fouling? – prompted many of you to comment via facebook.
Sam Punn said:?"Sadly not really. On the odd occasion I've offered other dog walkers a "poo bag" to pick up after their dog, I've just been met with verbal abuse! I really can't see that those who don't pick up after their dogs are going to respond to an unofficial volunteer."
Tina Marie Treagus: "No I can't see it working. A lot of people in Ross think that the Community Support Officers are a joke, so why would people who let their dog's foul anywhere, take kindly to a person giving out bags and expecting them to pick it up?
Jeremy de Quirky said: "Something needs to be done. The state of some of the pathways around here is terrible. I think that the wardens will help reduce the amount of dog mess a little, and I would rather see a small decrease than nothing at all.
"The only way to fully eradicate the dog fouling problem would be to scare those who do not clean up after their dog into doing it. Currently they know that they will get away with it so they do not bother picking the mess up, but if they had the risk of getting caught and punished I am sure that they would stop doing it.
Margaret Wilce said:?"No, I don't think it will work! It would take a Police Officer's warning to have any effect, but I suppose it's worth a try.
