Last week, the Ross Gazette reported that a group in the community had been formed to organise local efforts to help refugees in Calais, by providing them with material goods.

The group, Ross for Refugees, resolved to accept donated goods, such as warm items of clothing, toiletries, and tents. Several members of the group volunteered to sort through the donations, and several others would drive to Calais to give them to the refugees.

A donation point was set up at Greggs Bakery in Broad Street, Ross-on-Wye; the shop had an unused room above the shop, and the team were happy to store the donated goods there until they could be transported to a larger storage area.

However, as so many members of the community came forward with items, it was filled after only a couple of days, so they can no longer accept donations.

Anyone wanting to drop-off donations can do so on a Monday or Tuesday at the Ryefield Centre, the new drop-off point.
