Dear Editor,

Mrs Joyce Thomas MBE should consider how the demolition of a beautiful stone wall in a conservation area on her watch and at her instigation does her no credit whatsoever.

This is a further whittling way of the claimed historical importance of Ross; the more you destroy the fabric of the place you more you destroy its historical legitimacy.

It is too easy for building control to just walk in and demolish on say so; where is the detailed structural report? Frankly it doesn’t look too bad judging by the photograph. It would be very unusual if the owner of the land enclosed by the wall was not also the owner of that wall.

Let’s get the conservation officer in with Councillor Phil Cutter to get it restored and retain some of Ross’ valuable architecture and townscape before it’s lost.

Perhaps Mrs Thomas can search the Land Registry in more detail. Are we planning to give the owner a free fence and not insist the wall is speedily repaired?
