The Beethoven in Wales project is the brainchild of Rhyl Music Club, who came up with the ambitious project of putting on the complete cycle of Beethoven’s 10 sonatas for violin and piano across three concerts in one season, and then to repeat this with other music clubs, in an attempt to raise the profile of the work that music clubs are doing across Wales.

Wye Valley Music has been given the opportunity to participate in this exciting initiative, and its next concert, on Sunday 20th January at 3:00 in St Briavels Church, is devoted to four Beethoven violin sonatas along with a specially-commissioned work to accompany them.  The artists for all three concerts in the project - the next is planned for September - are the highly experienced Mary Hofman (violin) and Richard Ormrod (piano).  The Beethoven sonatas for this first concert will be his three opus 12 works and his ‘Spring’ Sonata opus 24, and the work specially-commissioned to accompany them is ‘Sonata’ by Rhian Samuel, one of Wales’ leading contemporary composers.
