2011 has started well for 16 year old Sam Griffiths, a sixth form student at John Kyrle High School. She claimed the sprint double in the 200m and 60m at Birmingham's NIA, to become the Under 20 South West Champion on 12th and 13th February, setting new personal bests of 26.58 seconds and 8.07 seconds respectively. Sam also won the Midland Counties silver medal on Sunday 13th February, in a very close race in the 60m Final against some strong opposition.
The previous weekend, competing in her first indoor race of the season at the Birmingham Games, she won her 200m race with a personal best of 26.66 seconds. Sam travels to Cheltenham three times a week, where she is coached by Kerry Eddie, who has competed in two Commonwealth Games. Kerry was very pleased with the first indoor times achieved after a hard winter training period. They are now looking forward to Sam's last indoor race, at the Aviva England Age Group Championships next weekend.
