Madam, I write in response to your article regarding Lea speed camera.
Might I suggest that it is not the camera that should be in the 'hall of shame' but those drivers who deem it 'right and proper' to break the speed limit. The gentleman interviewed may well be a 'responsible and careful' driver but 33 mph is 3mph over the speed limit!
May I also suggest he, or anyone else who feels hard-done-by by the camera, come and observe my position for a day.
I am Lea School's Crossing Patrol Attendant and I have to deal with vehicles that are driven well above the 30mph speed limit on a daily basis. I also have to deal with vehicles who think it is acceptable to overtake through the village. The 30mph speed limit is there for a reason. I wear full florescent clothing, there are school warning signs and flashing beacons yet still drivers are blind to this.
I have a number of parents and children with pushchairs or prams that cross regularly and I have to give them a safe environment in which to do so.
I seriously believe there is an accident waiting to happen. So, may I ask that the 'care and consideration' be extended to sticking to the speed limit, particularly during school crossing times, so that the families that I help cross can do so safely and without fear or concern.
Mike Williams, Lea
