Sainsbury’s celebrated a key milestone by announcing its 1,000th donation point for customers. The retailer’s latest announcement means that 80% of Sainsbury’s stores now have a collection point where customers can drop off donations of canned and packaged food for charity.

Customers at Sainsbury’s Ross-on-Wye can donate products throughout the year to support Ross Community Larder at the dedicated food donation point which is located at the front of the store. Products are then collected by volunteers at the charity and redistributed to people in the local area.

Adam Harding, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Ross on Wye said: “We’re thrilled to have reached such an impressive milestone in our food donation programme. Our customers are very generous all year round and as we enter 2018, we hope to see even more food donated to help people in the local community who may be at risk of going hungry.”

Lindsay Cole from Ross Community Larder said: “We’re delighted to be receiving so many donations from the generous customers and colleagues at Sainsbury’s Ross-on-Wye who have helped to raise awareness of our cause. These items really will benefit local people suffering from food poverty. We’re looking forward to working with the store into 2018.”

The charity collects a variety of products including long life milk, tinned goods – especially tinned fruit and vegetables, sugar, cereals etc. Other items such as cleaning products and toiletries are also welcome.
