A planning application for 24 new homes at St Weonards has been submitted to Herefordshire Council by the Duchy of Cornwall.

The proposal will provide 24 homes in a landscape setting with open space, natural landscaping, footpaths within the site and offsite to connect with the school, village hall, shop and church.

The layout will include SuDS drainage and a foul pumping station, access, parking and associated works. There will be a single vehicular access from the A466.

The application states that the Duchy of Cornwall is committed to meeting local needs by taking time to engage with local communities to better understand how development can serve rather than hinder the village, how it can build on the successes of the past and be rooted in the distinctive character of place.

The Duchy says that it wishes to promote the use of local materials to reflect local vernacular and tradition. Safe walking to and from school, the local shop and post office, village hall and church will help to unite the village with the new development and vice versa as circular walks requested by the community will allow the integration of new with the old. Measures to slow traffic speeds will help with road safety.
