John Kyrle’s record of exceptional performance at A-Level continued this year with 62% of students gaining the highest A*- B grades, 86% gaining grades A*-C and an overall pass rate of 100%. The performance of students is all the more impressive given the increasingly rigorous demands placed upon the qualification and the huge amount of variability in results seen nationally.
The school was particularly pleased with the amount of A*-A grades which has resulted in the highest number of John Kyrle students gaining places at Oxbridge than ever before and others gaining places at prestigious universities across the country. These include students who will study modern foreign languages, mathematics, engineering, computer science, history, economics, medicine and veterinary science.
Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, said the emphasis the school has upon academic excellence was borne out by these results and commended his students, their families, his staff and governors for all their hard work.
Students at other local schools have also been celebrating, Monmouth Comprehensive recorded a record pass rate of 100% from 96% last year and 30% of its students achieved the highest A*-A grades.
The hard work and dedication of sixth formers and staff at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools paid off with almost one in three students gaining all A* or A grades.
At HMSG, 56.9% of grades were A* or A - more than double the national average - and the vast majority of girls gained access to their first choice university. 82.4% of grades were A* to B, and the pass rate was 100%.
Monmouth School enjoyed its best set of results in four years, with 50.2% A* - A grades and three quarters of all grades A* - B. Three boys, Freddie Parker, Dan Smith and Sam White all achieved four A*s.
More than a quarter of Hereford Cathedral School’s A Level students achieved top A grades and 23 students (26%) secured all A*/A grades. This included a number of students who joined HCS Sixth Form from other schools.Newent Community School are congratulating their students on their results, with a pass rate of 99%. The school told the Ross Gazette that they would like to give a special mention to Tim Klee, who achieved three A*s and two As, and he will now be attending the Imperial College London to study Physics.
