Year 8 pupils at JKHS have been giving something back to the local community this Advent, with an idea by PE teacher and Year 8 Form tutor Claire Godwin. Claire developed the Reverse Advent Calendar idea.
Instead of taking something, like a chocolate from a calendar, students are encouraged to give something. Claire encouraged her students to bring in an item of food to donate to the Ross Community Food Larder.
Word soon spread with two other classes also joining in. Head of Year 8, Hayley Knapper, was soon inundated with donations from her thoughtful year group. Parents and pupils have been very generous with their donations. Lindsay Cole was happy to receive the box of food on behalf of the Community Food Larder. Lindsay thanked JKHS Headteacher Nigel Griffiths, his students and staff for their generosity. She said that she was very impressed with how the pupils thought of others at this time. In the new year, the school will be further involved with the Ross Community Food Larder as part of its citizenship programme.
