Ross-on-Wye Primary Schools were invited to take part in an Easter Experience at St Marys Parish Church on Friday, March 18th.

The senior years at Ashfield, Walford and Brampton Abbotts Primary School’s took part in the event, that occurs every two to three years, to learn about the stages of Palm Sunday in a fun, interactive way. The aim of the event was to give children the experience of what Easter is about.

In small groups, pupils went to each of the six ‘stations’ in the church where they learnt about the events of Palm Sunday, and were encouraged to think about feelings and emotions. Over 150 pupils came to the church throughout the day.

Freda Davis, a reader at St Marys Parish, and the organiser of the Easter event, told the Ross Gazette: “The event has been brilliant. You can tell all the children enjoyed themselves, because they were quiet and really payed attention. Some of the concepts are difficult to understand, like getting the children to talk about when they have felt alone, as Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, and they did so well.”

Many of the ladies interacting with the pupils at the church on Friday also go to local Primary Schools to do Open the Book classes. In these classes they tell Christian stories to the pupils in fun ways that appeal to the children.
