Garway Common provided a superb setting for a fantastic afternoon of family fun last Saturday.

The sun was shining and it was just amazing to see so many individuals, families and of course dogs enjoying themselves.

There were 150 entrants of all breeds, shapes and sizes in the dog show and it was particularly pleasing to see so many children showing their dogs.

The ‘Best in Show’ was a beautiful Welsh Sheep dog.

We had a BBQ, ice cream, cider, ‘Pimms’ and of course tea and cakes, so nobody was thirsty or hungry.

A fantastic children’s area complete with sand pit, storytelling and a treasure hunt in the woods kept the children occupied, while the adults had a wonderful selection of stalls to peruse.

Plants, crafts, bric-a-brac, books, the ‘Garway Boutique’ and a Tombola enticed folks to spend their money, while the now traditional Garway Funday activities of Skittles, Welly Wanging and Crazy Croquet drew out the competitive spirit of partakers.

The children started the entertainment with a fancy dress parade around our central arena, this was followed by an energetic set of exercises warming everyone up for the rest of the afternoon. Country Dancing, whacky sports races and musical entertainment continued throughout the afternoon with a parade of vintage tractors bringing the day to a fabulous conclusion.

The Garway Funday is a convivial community event that involves so many of our community without whom along with the fantastic support we receive from local businesses would not happen, so an enormous THANK YOU to everyone who came helped and provided prizes and support.

The money raised will support the further development of Garway Common playground.

See you next year, Saturday August 26 2023 on Garway Common!
