The children at Goodrich CE Primary School enjoyed their postponed World Book Day and community litter pick in the last couple of weeks of the spring term.

Pupils and staff dressed as their favourite book characters and shared their love of their chosen books with each other. Some of the parents also came in to share some of their favourite children’s books with the children.

The annual litter pick took place on a beautiful day, with different classes focusing their ‘hunt’ for litter in different parts of the community. The children were shocked by the things they found, including some car mats, metal parts of cars and lots of plastic. They could not understand why anyone would leave it rather than take it home and pop it in the bin.

The children care about the community they learn in and the school council try to consider the impact on the local or global environment as they make decisions. For example, they recently decided not to sell plastic bands for Sports Relief, instead they made ‘friendship bracelets’ to sell.

Goodrich Primary School welcomes children from a wide geographical area and currently have some spaces for September 2018. See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
