Hereford Sixth Form College’s top A level results: back to business as usual
Students from Ross were among the recent success stories at Hereford college.
After two years of Centre and Teacher Assessed Grades (CAGs and TAGs) and with students never having sat external exams previously, it was back to business as usual at Hereford Sixth Form College.
A Levels once again exceeded the national level with 35.4 per cent of grades at A* or A with an overall pass rate of 99.1 per cent. The college says this is a huge success story, and their top performers compare with the leading independent, state schools and colleges in the country.
A remarkable 87 students achieved all A*/A grades with a further 142 achieving 3 A/Distinction grades, or more. On applied courses, 51.3 per cent of students gained Distinctions, with an overall pass rate of 99.2 per cent for year two.
An excited Manon F, a former King Henry VIII Comprehensive School student, told us that she has loved studying at Hereford Sixth Form College and that “it was the most amazing environment to study.”
Manon achieved an outstanding A*A*A* and is planning to study Human Sciences at the University of Oxford.
Congratulations to the 18 students who will be taking up their Oxbridge places, 12 at Oxford and six at Cambridge.
The college is also delighted to celebrate the success of students who have secured degree apprenticeships with national and international companies. These include IBM (Digital and Technology Solutions) and Laing O’Rourke (Civil Engineering).
Eleri M, a former Abersychan School student, is celebrating an amazing AAA in her A Levels. She said: “I chose Hereford Sixth Form College because there is such great support for hard to access degrees such as Medicine.
‘‘The College dealt really well with the challenges of the pandemic, the support that we were given was great.” Eleri is planning on studying Medicine at Liverpool University.
Peter Cooper, college principal, was delighted with the excellent performance saying: “These results reflect incredibly well upon our hard-working students and dedicated staff after a challenging couple of years. They are all to be congratulated. I am extremely proud of all our students and delighted that they have strong foundations on which to build. Many will be going to university, with a high proportion to Russell Group Universities where they achieve well above national averages due to their firm foundations with us.
‘‘Our excellent vocational programmes have also been a real success with many leaving us to take up apprenticeships and employment. Well done to you all!”
