Students at John Kyrle High School were challenged to consider ‘Is it worth it?’ during a recent dynamic presentation.
Year 9 students welcomed a team put together by Gloucestershire Police in conjunction with Gloucestershire children’s safeguarding team. The team gave a lively presentation that encouraged students to really think about their own personal safety when online, particularly with regard to sharing of personal photographs, the dangers of sexting and the potential impact of these areas on mental wellbeing.
The roadshow style presentation included lively interactive games, watching videos, dance performances as well as talking about various E-safety issues such as Cyber bullying. The students particularly enjoyed two performances from up-and-coming R&B singer Luzzey.
JKHS students were extremely positive about the experience and the school was also pleased to receive appreciative feedback from parents of Year 9 students. Head of Year 9, Nick Wardale stated that "this was a high impact event that will have a lasting effect on our students and will hopefully help them to make good choices when online."
The School Council have also recently developed the JKHS Digital Wellbeing Charter - advice and guidance to help ensure young people are safe, sensible and discerning online.
