Pupils from Kings Caple Primary School walked to Venetia Williams’ Stables recently to see the racehorses and find out about their training.
They were shown around by Martin Bellamy, who works at Aramstone. Martin took the children to the track to watch the horses training. The children were able to see horses that competed in this year’s Grand National and chat to the jockeys.
Martin said: “We really enjoyed welcoming these well-behaved pupils. It’s great to be able to link with the local community. Perhaps one of these pupils will return to us in the future to train to be a jockey!”
After touring the extensive grounds, the pupils had the opportunity to try on racing silks and watch the blacksmith in action, fitting horseshoes. The children’s favourite part was watching one of the racehorses swimming to keep fit in the specially designed pool.
Student Lottie said: “I was so excited to visit the stables as I love horses. I go horse riding twice a week. My favourite bit was watching the horses gallop past us.”
Student Sophie added: “It was wonderful to see these brilliant stables where up to 100 horses can be kept.
“I loved watching the horse swimming.”
The children had a wonderful time and are very grateful to Venetia Williams for allowing them to visit.
