A student engineer at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools had an incredible experience at the world-renowned McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.
Daniela Waters was among seven exceptional young engineers from across the UK chosen to take part in the celebration of International Women in Engineering Day.
Daniela, from Year 12, and her peers were encouraged to break down barriers, smash glass ceilings, and carve their own paths in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
The day provided her with invaluable knowledge, mentorship, and a network of like-minded individuals.
Now Daniela feels even more empowered to continue nurturing her passion for engineering, knowing her aspirations are valid and within reach.
The teenager holds a prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship, part of The Smallpeice Trust, a charity providing programmes to promote engineering careers to young people.
The scholarship means that the teenager will get financial and mentoring help for design projects that she comes up with.
The day, at McLaren, recognised the invaluable contributions of women in the field of engineering while inspiring and empowering the next generation of female engineers.
Through engaging and interactive sessions, the Haberdashers’ Monmouth student had the opportunity to learn from accomplished professionals in the industry, gaining invaluable insights into real-world applications.
She had a guided tour of McLaren Group’s headquarters and research facility and was treated to a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the heart of innovation.
Indeed, Daniela felt a sense of awe when she walked through the state-of-the-art laboratories, design studios, and engineering workshops.
She witnessed first-hand the passion and dedication that went into creating cutting-edge automotive and technological advancements.
Daniela had the privilege of interacting with accomplished women who had defied conventions and achieved great success in the engineering field.
