A parent of a former student at John Kyrle High School, Mark Finning told Ross Town Councillors about his wish to organise a public meeting with the headteacher to discuss the mental health of students.

Mr Finning has been organising a long-running campaign calling for the meeting. At the Town Council meeting on Monday, January 14th, he said that when his daughter left the school after completing her A levels he promised her that he would do whatever he could to improve mental health. He said talking about mental health can only be a positive thing. He brought with him a large number of anonymous statements from past pupils, and parents which referred to the pressure the pupils were put under to work hard and achieve good results.

He said that some people might think he is just like a dog with a bone but he added: “All these bits of paper represent more trauma than you can imagine.”

Councillor Caroline Bennett asked if there was anything the Council could do to process a meeting between Mark and the school.
