Pupils at Weston under Penyard Church of England Primary School and Whitchurch C Of E Primary School joined together on Thursday, September 8th, to take part in a paralympics activity day.

The schools are joined as part of a federation, and the day was held at the school at Weston under Penyard. Pupils played many games and sampled a variety of sports which are featured in the paralympic games, including blind football, seated volleyball, guided hurdles and boccia.

All children in Key Stage Two at both schools, and pupils in Year 2 at Weston under Penyard Primary School took part in the activity day. They also learned more about the paralympic stars who are representing Great Britain. The theme of the day was ‘Yes I Can’, to show the children that they can achieve anything they set their mind to.

Headteacher, Claire McKeown, told the Ross Gazette that the purpose of the day was to give pupils a positive boost at the start of the new school year.

The same pupils went on a school trip to the Newport Harriers Athletic Club, the following day, where the children were able to take part in even more sports, such as longjump, and a relay.
