A South Herefordshire boy has followed in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in the music world.

Nine-year-old Oliver Edwards, who lives near Ross-on-Wye, was part of a group which recorded a song at the iconic Rockfield Studios on the outskirts of Monmouth.

The recording studio, made famous by the likes of Queen and Oasis, was the venue for a science and music trip by pupils at Monmouth School Boys’ Prep.

The Year 4 boys recorded their own version of Go Tell it on the Mountain and learnt about the science of sound.

Oliver, a former pupil at Gorsley Goffs Primary School, said: “My favourite band is Queen and this was a really cool trip.

“My mum said she was very jealous and told me to make the most of it because not many people get this opportunity.”

Professional sound engineer Joe Jones, science teacher Dr Sion Wall and music teacher Mr Joe Walton explained the relationship of science to music in a very hands on manner.

After recording Go Tell it on the Mountain, the boys took part in the mixing process which resulted in a professionally-finished version of the song.
