Budding young scientists, STEM Ambassadors and ICT experts impressed children and adults who attended an afternoon of scientific discovery held at Walford Primary School last week.
This year, Walford, together with Much Marcle, St Joseph’s, Gorsley Goffs and Lea Primary School have formed the South Herefordshire Science Hub through an exciting partnership with Dr Simon Rhodes (Hereford Cathedral School) and The Ogden Trust.
Throughout the evening, groups of children from each school were delighted to showcase their science experiments and alongside visitors such as John Kyrle High School, undertake a variety of scientific challenges involving problem-solving skills and team work.
Representatives from Haygrove Fruit Farm in Newent, and EDF Energy also attended, and talked to the children about their plans to become more environmentally friendly. Haygrove aim to have zero waste to landfill by 2023.
The Head Teachers were all in agreement that this partnership has not only created fantastic opportunities to further develop children’s scientific knowledge and understanding but it has also provided funding for additional resources to enhance their learning experiences and enjoyment in school.
