Last month, Brampton Abbotts CE Primary School in Ross-on-Wye, had a visit from Ofsted and the headteacher, staff and governors were delighted with the result. This was some four and a half years after its last ‘Good’ inspection in 2013.

The inspector, who spent one day with the school, confirmed that Brampton Abbotts continued to be a very ‘Good’ school – and had made some significant improvements since its last inspection.

The overwhelmingly positive letter from Ofsted, a consequence of a one-day inspection, highlighted a significant number of positives. These included: “Pupils are happy in school and make strong progress over time, across the curriculum. This reflects the school’s vision statement that ‘happiness is created by achievement and achievement is created by happiness’.”

The letter also went on to highlight the quality of education from the children’s perspective: “They [the children] rightly have great pride in their school. A notable feature of the culture of the school is the way pupils support each other and genuinely celebrate the success of others.” It also went on to say “The school has a strong Christian ethos, underpinned by Christian values. As a result, pupils thrive in a safe environment that supports them well, both academically and pastorally.”

Dan Brearey, Headteacher of both Brampton Abbotts and Bridstow Primary School, told the Ross Gazette: “We are so very proud of how our wonderful little school continues to thrive and benefit all the children that attend the school. This letter is a clear recognition of all the hard work and dedication that goes into making the school what it is today. Now the school can continue to develop and progress in order to benefit the children and families it serves.”

With this one-day inspection under its belt, Brampton Abbotts won’t receive another inspection for the next five years. However, Mr Brearey said: “This will not stop the school from doing what is right for the children and community it serves.”
