Year 11 students at John Kyrle High School were celebrating some terrific GCSE results this morning (Thursday, August 25th).
Parents, teachers and siblings joined the nervous students, as they opened the envelopes which contained their results.
During the morning, students also collected their Class of 2016 yearbooks, which contained their photographs taken during the school year, their memories throughout their time at school, and messages from their teachers. Groups of friends huddled together excitedly to compare their results and to leaf through the yearbook.--[UPDATE] This summer’s GCSE results at John Kyrle are amongst its best ever and follow the outstanding performance at A level last week.63% of year 11 students gained five or more A*- C grades, including Maths and English at GCSE. This figure is significantly above both national and local averages, and represents considerable progress for students. Notable within these examination outcomes is the fact that 74% of students received top grades in English and 73% in maths. A third of students also gained the demanding English Baccalaureate, which includes higher grades in maths, English, two sciences, modern foreign languages and humanities. A similar result on this latter measure last year was significantly above the national average. Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, told the Ross Gazette that he was delighted for his students, particularly given the national background of a significant decline in GCSE outcomes, and extremely grateful to his staff and governors for their hard work and commitment. He added that he wanted to give credit to the parents and carers of Year 11 students for their support. He said attendance at parental consultation evenings had been very high and he and his staff appreciate the level of support shown to the students and school. Mr Griffiths said a very high number of students will be returning to John Kyrle, to begin Sixth Form in September. Head of Year 11, Nick Wardale, wanted to pay tribute to his Year 11 students, not only for their academic success, but for their wider contribution to school. He commented that a number of students represented the school last summer in rugby and netball tournaments in Canada. He said they were also involved in all aspects of drama, music, fundraising and working with younger students in areas such as literacy, numeracy and sports.Amongst the school’s top performers were Sarah Collinson; Toby Dickens; Elysia Cotton; Samuel Johnson; Rachel Denny; Max Marshal; Lia Nuttall; Patrick Daniel; Bryony Young and Tomas Lance; all of whom are returning to John Kyrle’s Sixth Form. Joint Chair of Governors, Jon Sanger, joined students, parents and staff at school and saw people’s delight when they opened their results. He said that together with last week’s A level results, this performance evidenced the school’s continued focus upon academic excellence for students of all abilities. Nigel Griffiths said, “This has once again been a hugely successful academic year for us. It confirms the strong culture and highly-effective teamwork at school and, additionally, our all-important relationships with parents, carers and the wider community. I am very proud of what we have achieved and look forward to building upon this for our current students and over 200 students we welcome into Year 7 from September.”
