Much Birch school invited their Reception children’s families into their classroom to see the class in action, network with other parents and have the chance to look through their children’s learning journeys so far.

The adults and yongsters worked together to make a ‘Rescue vehicle for Woody from Toy Story’.

The children created a story about Woody being marooned on a deserted island and Buzz had to make a rescue vehicle to save him.

All parents participated and younger siblings were welcomed to come into class and join in with the creativity. This was a completely inclusive event where working parents could make a rescue vehicle at home and then bring it into class to show when convenient. The session gave parents the opportunity to see class displays, observe the teaching of phonics, handwriting and reading stories, as well as looking at the children’s books and give feedback on their child’s progress so far.

Reception class teacher, Natalie Powell told the Ross Gazette: “A very enjoyable time was had by all. Many dads took it very seriously bringing in their toolboxes and resources to make chinooks, planes, rockets and a range of extraordinary vehicles.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
