A new group which has been started in Ross, with the aim of encouraging the arts in the town, have completed the formal parts of their growth.

The members of createROSS agreed their constitution at a meeting held at the Town Council offices. In addition, Ed O’Driscoll was elected Chair, Alastair MacDonald elected Treasurer and Caroline Utting Secretary.

The catalyst for setting up the group was the decision by the Herefordshire Cultural Partnership to bid for the City Of Culture 2020 award and, wanting to include the whole county in the bid. They asked the market towns to organise their own cultural partnerships to feed ideas into the bid. It then seemed a good idea to form ‘createROSS’ to do this, in order to bring together the many cultural groups in Ross.

One of the outcomes of this has been the branding Ross-on-Wye as ‘The Town of Music’, and because of that, the first event that the group is helping to organise is the Ross Busking Festival, on September 9th.

The group are keen to make clear though, that createROSS does not want to be seen as solely interested in musical events, but intends to support creativity in whatever form it takes.

createROSS is open to anyone to join, and hopes to widen its membership in the coming months.
