A good crowd gathered to salute, and thank, Brian Squires on Tuesday afternoon, June 7th, as he closed Linton Post Office for the last time. Brian has been postmaster at this small village, near to Ross-on-Wye for 45 years but at the age of 92 has decided the time has come to retire.

Brian, and his wife Pat, ran the village shop for many years and he was awarded the MBE in 2003 for Service to the Community but has continued to do all sorts of things to help the village. One of his latest projects was to make a new five bar gate to connect the churchyard and the Village Hall garden.

He is held in great affection by the residents of Linton, and will no doubt continue to help in whatever way he can in the years ahead. He is already looking for somewhere to do voluntary work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
