A Ross-on-Wye gym held an open morning on Sunday, January 8th to assist local woman, Becky Flynn in her fundraising efforts for the British Heart Foundation in memory of her younger brother, Jonathan Phillips.
Jonathan died in 2015, at the age of 21 of a rare and undiagnosed heart condition, Giant Cell Mycarditis. Becky has set herself a huge personal challenge and is planning lots of events for other people to enjoy as well as raising money for the BHF. She is planning to get fit and lose weight so that she can run the London Marathon next year.
At her most recent event on Sunday, people were welcome to come and try a huge variety of classes at Wyefit Gym for a small donation to the BHF.
There were nine taster classes available including boogie bounce where participants use a mini trampoline to do various exercises, and a fit-steps class where the latest Strictly Come Dancing Moves are combined with aerobic exercise. Lots of fun was had with some brave people attempting several classes.
A raffle was held and beauty treatments offered, raising over £100 for the BHF with more to come.
Jack Ingelby-Lewis, who owns WyeFit Gym has offered his support to Becky, and they have several events planned including a 24 hour sponsored spinathon in April. Each team will have a spin bike and someone from team must be riding it at all times, throughout the night. Special themed sessions and fun music will add to this unusual event with prizes for the best fancy dress and most raised by a team.
Becky’s training for the London Marathon is stepping up a gear now it is the new year. She will be travelling to London for two days to attend various different training programmes offered by the BHF and the Marathon organisers.
This will be an opportunity for Becky to get advice about nutrition, training and avoiding the dreaded ‘wall’.
