TWO former Ross-on-Wye musicians will reunite later this month for an orchestral concert featuring music from films inspired by Steven Spielberg.
International clarinettist Michael Kirby will be teaming up with Jane Whittle, founder of The Film Orchestra, at Great Malvern Priory on March 28.
Mr Kirby will be returning from his current position in Singapore to perform with The Film Orchestra in a one-off concert featuring music from John Williams’s score to ‘The Terminal’ alongside other movie music from films produced, directed and inspired by filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
Mr Kirby studied clarinet with English musical legend Jack Brymer and went on to become principal clarinet of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Professor of Clarinet in the Conservatorio Superior de Musica of Tenerife and co-founder and manager of the Tenerife Film Orchestra.
He was then appointed principal clarinet of the Macau Orchestra and has continued to perform as an invited soloist in Europe, Asia and South America.
Meanwhile Ms Whittle lived and taught music in Ross during the 1990s as well as setting up her first orchestra and choir, the Student and Community Orchestras of Ross.
It was as conductor and founder of the student orchestra that she and Michael met when Mr Kirby conducted a masterclass with the young musicians in 1996.
Since then, the pair have kept in touch and have shared ideas leading up to the founding of The film Orchestra in 2013.
The Film Orchestra will be performing music from ‘Back To The Future’, ‘Jaws', ‘E.T.’, The Twilight Zone’ and many more under the baton of The Film Orchestra’s principal conductor David Curtis and Marie Roberts-Watkins will return as the orchestra’s leader.
Tickets for the concert March 28, which starts at 7pm are priced at £23 (£20 for under 16s) and are available from Malvern Tourist Information centre or ticketsource.co.uk/tfo.
