A flood alert has been issued for the upper Wye as far downstream as Ross after heavy rain overnight.
The Environment Agency Flood Warning System issued an automated alert for the River Wye in Herefordshire this morning warning of high-water levels.
A message said: “Flooding is possible in this area. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.
“Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.
“The Environment Agency Flood Warning System has issued this message based on rising river or tidal levels.
“We are temporarily automating our messages due to industrial action.”
The river is still above its usual range for January at Hay-on-Wye, but is beginning to drop.
It is still in its usual range for January at Hereford down to Ross, where it had reached 2.1m this lunchtime, but is set to rise as the water moves downstream.
The Environment Agency said the Wye at Hereford was 2.64m at Old Bridge, 70cm blow the top of its range.
