BLAZING sunshine greeted visitors, Llandrindod, on their visit to the Avenue to play Goodrich 2nd XI in the Marches Divison 2 fixture. Home skipper Beddard won the toss and invited the visitors to bat.

Unfortunately Llandrindod openers, Edwards and Butcher, built an opening partnership of 132.

The break through came when veteran Richard Hope enticed Edwards (62) into a false stroke and Johnny Evans to his first of two well judged catches.

Chris Tookey then removed Butcher for 78. Gradually a probable total of 250+ began to look a lot less likely as Hope continue to pick up wickets at regular intervals. The best of these was a superb one handed caught and bowled. The final total of 218 – 6 represented a good comeback by the home side.

After tea Goodrich started their innings with optimism. However this was quickly dashed by the opening attack of Steve Fuller (3 – 48) and John Foster (2-38), which reduced them to 28 – 5 in nine overs. This brought together Captain Tony Beddard and Tom Dryden to resume their partnership of the previous week. Slowly they began to repair the early damage putting on a partnership of 44 before Dryden, who had just struck two successive boundaries, was bowled for 17.

This brought in Richard Hope to support his captain. They brought Goodrich back into the match albeit never quite being in a position to confidently chase the required total. At the innings close their partnership stood undefeated at 105 with Hope 33 not out and Beddard compiling a dominant 87 not out.

Llandrindod's victory was well deserved.
