AUCTIONEERS RG & RB Williams report a good entry of finished cattle met an excellent trade at the livestock market in Ross-on-Wye on September 8.
Better sorts of cattle sold between 390p and 412p per kilogramme. The entry included a fair number of some out of spec sorts which all sold well.
However more cattle could easily have been sold to this trade, auctioneer Richard Williams observed.
The top vendors were GE Phillips & Son of Dairy Farm and DE & SJ Cheacker of Ostbridge Manor Farm.
A short entry of cull cows sold to an outstanding trade. Most of the entry comprised of Friesians which sold up to 290p per kilogramme. The top vendors were FO & EC Turner of Poolfield Farm and FW & RJ Simcock of Woodfields Farm.
A small entry of lambs met with another very good trade with the best lambs selling up to 340p per kilogramme.
The entry included several heavier pens which again sold very well up to £216. The overall average of £138 which is about £8 per head in front of last year.
Overall average price of lambs £136 per head, 303p per kilogramme.
The top vendors were Monnow Marquees of Hill Farm and S G Williams of Cefn Parc Cottage.
A small entry of cull ewes sold to an excellent trade with better sorts selling up to £194. The trade was about £20 per head in front of last year. Again the auctioneer observed that more ewes could have easily been sold.
The top vendors were P Cuthbert of Hook Farm and G Whittington of Wain–y–Parc and MJ Duffield of Denfield Farm. The overall average price of ewes was £104.
