Dear Editor,

I feel that with all the negative talk about the performance of the NHS, and lack of funds, I should draw attention again to the exceptional service we are privileged to enjoy in Ross-on-Wye.

My husband has been poorly with the severe cough and related symptoms which is so widespread at the moment.

After three weeks he decided to call the doctor at Alton Street surgery.

Monday, as usual, was very busy on the telephone and advice was given to use ring back. My husband decided to wait a while and rang back about 20 minutes later. Now second in the queue, it was only a moment before the receptionist answered. Outcome: Doctor rang back within five minutes. After a short discussion my husband was asked, ‘can you be here in five minutes.’

He duly arrived, went straight into the surgery and was seen by a junior doctor.

Within minutes the consultation was complete and a prescription issued for appropriate medication, and an appointment given for an X-ray the next day.

Can anyone improve on this? I don’t think so. Thank you to everyone at Alton Street.
