MADAM, The Fair Trade Committee thank the people of Ross for supporting all the Fair Trade events recently.
Pancake races: we sponsored the races for 11 – 15 year olds. We have recently been liaising with JKHS, whose enthusiasm has been of great help to us. They entered a team and one of the girls gained second place. The first, second and third prizes were Fair Trade cakes – well appreciated. Also at this event a Zimbabwe 'baby' made her first appearance, inviting people to guess her name.
Our table in Sainsbury's with information, a display of some of their Fair Trade lines and samples of chocolate was popular. The 'baby' was also present.
The Big Brew event at the Friends Meeting House had over 30 enthusiastic visitors who enjoyed tea, coffee, cakes, quiz and sales, a DVD and other information.
Finally there was a stall in the Market Place selling Traidcraft products. This was the final appearance of Zimbabwe baby and among the 38 names offered, the correct one was Jessica. A little girl in Mitcheldean is now the proud owner.
As a Fair Trade Town our small committee is working hard to keep our Fair Trade Town status. If you would like to join us my phone number is 01989 562116 or look out for us at any town event.
Patricia Wilkinson, Ross
