A WARNING to local motorists has been issued after fake QR codes were placed in carparks of Herefordshire market towns including Ross-on-Wye.
Herefordshire Council said that fraudulent activity had been spotted at some of its car parks, with fake QR codes being posted on the payment machines.
The codes, placed over JustPark signage, redirect users to scam sites.
A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said that the authority does not use QR codes for payments and warned: "Please do not scan any QR codes on parking machines.
“All machines in the market towns had the warning signs posted on Saturday, August 9 and we have not had any reports of anyone being defrauded.”
The JustPark app, allows users to pay for parking which can also be made through its website.
