THERE was a poignant family gathering at Brampton Abbotts Village Hall recently, when the nephews and extended family of a young man killed in WWI came together. Private Albert Knapper of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry was just 19 when he was killed on June 25th, 1918, while based with the 3rd Battalion in Fermoy, Ireland. William (Bill) Knapper and his wife, Janet, live in Ross but older brother, Thomas Knapper, 86, came with his son and daughter-in-law, from Luton. Because of his age, Thomas has found it difficult to visit the memorial at Brampton Abbots Village Hall, so this visit, in the month of the WWI centenary, was particularly important.
