A woman has died following a fire in Orcop, on Tuesday October 13th.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) was called to reports of a bungalow fire at 10.51pm and dispatched five fire engines and an incident support vehicle to the scene.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze and searched the property for the missing occupant. Damping down continued throughout the night and unfortunately a body was recovered from the building this morning.

Area Commander Mark Preece said: “Sadly a woman lost her life following a severe fire on Tuesday night. Our thoughts go out to her family during this difficult time.”

He continued: “These tragic incidents are a timely reminder of the importance of having of working smoke alarms within the home. Smoke alarms provide an early warning so we urge people to fit a working smoke alarm on every level of their home and ensure they are tested on a weekly basis.”

He went on to confirm that a full fire investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

The Community Safety team from HWFRS called at other properties in the area yesterday to offer local residents reassurance and relevant home fire safety advice following the fire.
