Daniel Turner from Leominster took part in an endurance challenge for a Ross-on-Wye based charity, Rocky-Lee’s Little Feet, on Saturday, July 9th.In the space of a single day, Daniel paddled 30 miles in a canoe from Hereford to Ross, and after a short break, he cycled 20 miles back to Hereford.
Daniel was fundraising for Rocky-Lee’s Little Feet, a charity which provides support to bereaved parents, after a baby is stillborn.
The charity was established by Sian and Martin Coopey in 2013, after their son, Rocky-Lee was stillborn. Since then, Rocky-Lee’s Little Feet has helped couples all over the UK pay for headstones for their babies. They have also worked closely with Hereford County Hospital, on a number of projects.
Rocky-Lee’s Little Feet means a great deal to Daniel and his wife, Carla, as their second daughter, Angel, was stillborn on July 15th, 2014.
Daniel and Carla live in Leominster with their two daughters, Lexi-Mai, and Sophia.
Daniel told the Ross Gazette that while his endurance challenge was more difficult that he had anticipated, the whole experience was worth it for such a good cause.
He said that the while paddling his canoe the 30 miles, it was not all plain sailing, as he encountered rapids, and patches of poor weather. His 20 mile cycle went very well.
“I managed to complete the canoe side in seven and a half hours, and the cycle in two and a half hours, so it took me nine hours in total.”
He continued: “I only came out with a few injuries, but is all worth it for such a great charity.”
