Family and friends are mourning the tragic loss of Ross father of five, Jimmy Johns, who died after a fall in Henry Street on Saturday evening.
The Ross Gazette spoke to an eyewitness to the incident. He said that Mr Johns was among a group of young men who took one of their friend's Burberry cap and began to throw it about. During this Mr Johns climbed up a nearby telegraph pole. To their horror he appeared to fall and and hit himself on another pole next to it.
The eyewitness said: "He slumped unconscious, forward over the railings and wall. It was terrible."
He said Mr Johns was taken off the railings and laid down on the ground. They called for help from the pub. A nurse came from inside the Stag to help, and the police came in a matter of minutes. He said CPR was tried for quite a time but it was to no avail, and the ambulance arrived, but there was nothing they could do to revive Mr Johns.
Flowers and tributes were left at the scene on Sunday and the Stag was closed to all except family and friends as a mark of respect.
An inquest into the death will be held. Mr Johns' funeral will take place at Gorsley Church at 2pm on Thursday, August 13th.
