On Tuesday December 14, 39 ladies played in the final competition of the year, a nine hole Christmas fun competition where each team was able to purchase a number of Santa’s secret helpers such as a free kick, a throw, a mulligan and a secret hole with double points. It was great fun working out the best strategy of when to use these little presents and the winning team of Sally Fycun, Sue Johnson and Allison Charles with 41 points, clearly utilised them very successfully. In second place was Sally Lawrence, Lorraine Fenner and Ros Ashton with 37 points on countback, followed by Ellie Teasdale, Nadia Stirling and Kim Williams also with 37 points.
To minimise any risk of Covid, the Ladies Captain, Ellie Teasdale organised a delicious Christmas box of festive goodies for each lady to enjoy with her team or to take home. These were made by the club caterers Bouchbakes and were very much appreciated by everyone.
£296 was raised by the raffle and the purchase of Santa’s secret helpers and will go to the Lady Captain’s chosen charity for this year, Assistance Dogs.
After another year of uncertainty with the effects of the pandemic determining so many aspects of everyone’s lives, golf has certainly played its part in maintaining the health and well-being of those who play. Whether it be playing a sport in the fresh air in such beautiful surroundings as Ross on Wye Golf Club, or the challenges and social benefits of the game, there is something for everyone.
The Ladies Section at the Ross on Wye Golf Club is always keen to welcome potential new golfers and the Tim Hall School of Golf has an excellent ’Get in to Golf’ programme for any women who wish to take up golf.
For women who are already golfers and who are looking to join a club, the Ladies Section provides a wide range of opportunities to play golf socially and competitively within the club, in addition to playing competitively against other clubs.
