ROSS firefighters were called to Brookend Street on Saturday night following a report of a fire in a derelict building.

The call was received just after 7pm and two fire crews from Ross were sent to the town centre address where they found a fire on the first floor of the two-storey building. Many local residents gathered in the street to watch the efforts of the firefighters and those in vehicles were stopped from entering. Six firefighters in breathing apparatus were involved in tackling the blaze, using two hose reel jets and water supplemented from the street mains, bringing the fire under control by 9pm.
