Rotherwas chapel was full of prayers, singing and sunlight, in what was the first Mass to take place in the chapel in approximately 100 years.

Originally this was the family chapel of the Bodenham family. The simple medieval building has a fine Elizabethan timber roof, 18th century tower and striking Victorian interior decoration and furnishings.

For over six centuries, Rotherwas Chapel was an integral part of a sizeable manor house, the seat of the De La Barre and later the Bodenham families. Margot Miller, one of the Friends of Rotherwas Chapel told the Ross Gazette that this was a great start for the newly-formed group.

Rotherwas Chapel will be open from 12pm until 4pm on Saturday, September 10th, as part of National Heritage Open Day.

All the details of how to visit this beautiful little chapel can be found on the English Heritage website.

The key to the Chapel is held at the Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre, is available 10am-4pm Tuesday to Friday and every second Saturday of the month.
