The next film to be shown at Goodrich Village Hall on Thursday, February 25th, will be Gemma Bovery, starring Gemma Arterton, Fabrice Luchini and Jason Flemyng.
A Franco-British film version of Posy Simmonds’ graphic novel, itself an affectionate pastiche of Flaubert’s classic novel “Madame Bovary”.
An English couple arrive in Flaubert’s home town in rural Normandy in search of the English middle class dream of a perfect life in France. The story is of course a dissection of marital relationships and infidelity but is done by French director, Anne Fontaine, with an infectious charm and lightness.
Gemma Arterton is excellent as the title character, with her schoolgirl French being called upon to resolve very complex issues of romance and lust. Terrific fun.
The film will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £4.50, and will be available on the door. Call 01600 891249 for more information.
