Madam, My husband and I drove through Ross on Friday, June 10th and it was a pleasure to see all the Union Flags flying from shops and other buildings, presumably for the birthday of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh's birthday.

What irritated us, however, was that most of them were flying upside down. Surely, if people fly the national flag, which we should do more of in this country, it's worth making sure that it is done correctly. If not, then please don't do it. It's an insult.

Doreen Arbon,

Gloucestershire

Editor's note, the flags flying in Ross are part of the Ross in Bloom initiative which celebrated the The Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and will celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Also, as trouble was taken to check the correct way to fly the flag, the one outside the Gazette's office is the right way up.
