As part of a special Gala night performance of The Goal on Saturday, October 6th, The Courtyard were honoured to host nine members of the original 1972 Hereford United team to celebrate the production, as well as their historic victory against Newcastle United 46 years ago.
Fred Potter, Tony Gough, Dudley Tyler, Billy Tucker, Ronnie Radford, Colin Addison, Brian Owen, Ken Mallender and Peter Isaac all graced The Courtyard with their presence to watch the performance and agreed to take part in a post-show questions and answers time with the audience.
The Courtyard Board Chairman and Producer of The Goal, Roger Morgan, said: “It felt very special having these sporting legends in our midst.”
“The highlight of the evening for me was Ronnie Radford’s response to being asked whether he received any royalties when the infamous wonder goal is shown on the television.”
Speaking of the performance of The Goal, Radford said: “My royalties have been played out today. It’s reliving these memories over and over again and I’m so proud to be one of these guys.”
The Goal is a coming of age story, steeped in 70’s history and local folklore, set against the backdrop of Hereford United’s famous FA Cup run and election to the Football League.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
