The Forest of Dean Motor Club won the award for the Best Event in the BTRDA Rally Championship 2009 at the annual BTRDA Awards dinner in Sutton Coldfield on Saturday night.

BTRDA President Mike Broad said: "The Forest of Dean Motor Club were worthy winners given the conditions that faced them 24 hours before this year's event and it is a club that could cope given the experience and the people at the top level within the club." Wyedean clerk of the course, Phil Turley, accepted the trophy on behalf of the Club.

Club chairman, Paul Willetts, said: "It's a tremendous accolade to have especially for the club, but this is an award for everybody who worked so hard in those awful conditions 24 hours before the event, to give competitors a rally on the Saturday. The volunteers, the contractors who took up to a foot of snow off the Forest roads, the Saturday marshalls, the rescue crews, and the doctors, all deserve so much credit. So, this award is for teamwork, and it's nice to have some recognition from the BTRDA."

Tonight, Wednesday, December 9th, at 8pm, the Forest of Dean Motor Club awards night takes place at Parkend Working Men's Club (GL15 4SZ). Everyone is welcome. WRC Star, Phil Mills, will be presenting the awards and there will be a Wyedean Stages update afterwards.
