A former headteacher, who lives at Aston Crews, near Ross-on-Wye, was so impressed by the treatment she received for breast cancer that she decided to publish a collection of short stories to raise funds.
Hilary Orme received treatment at the Renton Unit in Hereford Hospital and from Macmillan. She told the Ross Gazette:?“I was treated with respect and kindness. The support from the Unit, and especially Macmillan has been wonderful.”
‘Twisted Tales: A Collection’ by Hilary Orme’ has been published this week. It is an anthology of short stories which all have a twist in the tale. The stories have been compiled in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. All royalties for 2016 will be donated to the charity.
Hilary explained that each story is short enough to enjoy over a cup of coffee or with a night cap. There is something to suit all tastes, from little Gothic horrors to light-hearted sketches.
The author told the Gazette:?“Just before Christmas 2015, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. At all stages of my treatment, I received support from Macmillan. Recently, the partnership between Wye Valley NHS Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support, together with donations from local people, built the Macmillan Renton Unit at Hereford County Hospital.
"Similar projects are funded across the country, making a tremendous difference to the lives of those affected by cancer. I was one of the people who benefited from the work of the Radiotherapy team in the Unit and I wanted to say thank you.”
